WebOmalizumab, the active substance in Xolair, is a recombinant humanised anti-IgE antibody. Omalizumab binds to the FcεR1 epitope of human IgE, preventing human IgE from binding to its receptor on mast cells and basophils, thus inhibiting the histamine release response normally triggered by exposure to allergens.
